This site now is new again: NextJS via the help of Claude, and some sidetracking with Gemini. Overall impressions:

  • Claude Code is still the best. It can infer intent from my questions well, and generally the hallucinations are manageable.

  • Gemini CLI really, really has problems still.

    • First prompt: Examine this directory and project. Note: I had no intent yet to leverage Gemini for anything other than some Google Analytics tag insertion.
    • Gemini noticed that it was a properly built NextJS site, then commenced to build out a Contact form. No real prompt other than "Allow". I decided to jump down the rabbit hole with it, to see how far we'd go.
    • It then started doing navigation adjustments.
    • It then detected a tool loop, and canceled, leaving me with non-working code, and refactoring gone wild.

I gave up on Gemini. I did the required git restore ., and waited for my Claude Code allotment to arrive (I was waiting for 2PM, when my tokens allotment reset).

What other AI shenanigans can I get into on this New Year's Eve? 🤔
